Jabber's English Note
by jabber (jabber) at 2002.12.12 16:29
This morning, my boss talked me and told me he may let me go very soon. It is not a surprise to me. I told him: "I have been very grateful. It is a pleasure for me to have worked with you. It's not a problem for me to be let go." Though my last day with my present employer has not yet been set, but I am doomed to go and I am ready to go.

We know the expression "lay-off". Interestingly enough, people say "let go" instead of "lay off", especially in the newspaper. "Let go" does not mean "you are allowed to go".
