I respectfully disagree with you. In my humble opinion, in the dialogue between mother and preganent daughter, the word disgrace is just opposite of grace. SInce a shame means "可惜", and doesn't fit into [#890181@0 -ROLIA.NET]

Sometimes, when we say what a shame, it actually means "what a pity", though I never heard that a native english speaker used "what a pity".
