I aslo suspect you are an Indian bastard, otherwise write some Chinese here to prove you are not.
Many Chinese guys use Preferred First Names (pay attention: we didn't CHANGE our name) simply because foreigners couldn't pronounce our Chinese name and that have made lots of inconveniences. (using an Preferred First Name here in North America is not a big deal, however, using that and feel proud of that back China is mean and cheap)
Tell the Indian colleague: we are not SERVANT of any other country like they were. We select a Preferred First Name (not CHANGE name) just to make the life of foreigners easier.
Do anything you could to fight back: forward and complaint to the management and HR, ask for apology.
