In my knowledge, .NET has powerful solutions for data exchanging.
Using ADO.NET you can get data not only from SQL server, but also from many other data sources, such as DB2 (I’m sure IBM and some third-party companies have ADO.NET Data Providers for DB2.), oracle, other database, flat data file, and many others.
Objects of stream also provide convenient solutions to access various data file.
In addition, object FtpWebRequest provides download, upload file functions.
I’m not sure what you mean SQL server can only use VB natively
