There is big difference between VB and VB.NET. Although at beginning VB.NET is similar to VB in syntax (VB style), in new versions (FW 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5) VB.NET became closer and closer to C# (java style) (of course, even in C#, some good VB features are used.). VB is not OOP, but VB.NET is. VB relies on COM library in backend. But VB.NET is based on .NET Framework in backend. In WEB development, ASP.NET is almost complete different with legacy ASP.
As an experience developer you should know. Language syntax is not very important. Import thing is the ability to use backend library.
