for BA, communication, analytical, detailed oriented are some of the key skills. In terms of knowledge, domain knowledge or industry experience is absolutely an asset. Business analysis methodology is essential too. In terms of the style, it's a people job, 60% time in meetings, discussion, facilitation, presentation etc. It's challenging for sure, well it's rewarding at the same time. Don't assume BA is just talking, blah blah blah, there is a lot work needs tobe done on analysis (business analysis, business modeling), documentation. etc. Compared to PM, BA takes less responsibilities. So if you enjoy being a contributor instead of leader, BA is the way to go. Plus, transition from BA to PM is quite natual if you change your mind later.

For PM, again, communication is still number 1 skill plus PM knowledge, interpersonal skills, leadership. Lots of responsibilities for sure, have you seen the reality show the Apprentice, if the project fails, PM is the first one to be blamed or fired. Well big risk means big reward. The point is aim high and get high. 60% of time deal with people, influencing, negotiation etc. 40% documentation, admin and coordination.

My advice, talk to the people who already work in that area, and get a sense of it, build your own networking. Career change or management is not an easy one.
